I recently attended a church service where our pastor began sharing his vision of making a difference in the world related to human trafficking. I was brought to tears at the thought of millions of people in this world being kidnapped and sold into such horrific conditions. Having learned that our callings in life most often relate to things we feel most passionate about; I have been praying for God to show me how He would use me in this mission. I have never really felt a call to serve in a mission field or anything remotely like it and I don't know why this topic has captured my heart so. I simply know that I can't sit around and do nothing while innocent people are being taken advantage of; not if I can do something about it.
Today I learned of an two organizations that are on the front lines on these issues, and I wanted to share one of them with you. The A21 Campaign is a group that was founded in 2007 with a desire to head up a movement to abolish the injustice of human trafficking and slavery in the 21st Century. These passionate 21st Century abolitionists have created shelters where trafficking victims can find a safe haven. Services include access to medical care and psychological assessment, vocational training, assistance in university education, life guidance/counseling, and access to legal assistance. The A21 Campaign also reaches out to governments and law enforcement agencies in source countries from which large numbers of victims are taken, as well as the destination countries to which they end up.
As I pray about how God would have me lend my talents skills and passions to this cause, I urge you to take a look at the A21 Campaign web site and learn how you might become an A21 Abolitionist.
